KART 2 KART:
Our Club Members Are Tougher Than They Look!!

By David Miller

Saturday, November 16th was the 3rd Semi-Annual Kart 2 Kart outing.
Indoor, European-style go-cart racing has developed a lasting following
in our club.

As winter announced its coming with some freezing temperatures and
the first snowflakes of the season, a contingent of SEM members and a
few guest were on the track with aggressive, wheel-to-wheel competition
without any worry of the climatic conditions (or anything else for that
matter).

A new track layout was awaiting us, bringing the top speed up as well as
the overall excitement. There were occasional spinouts and some bumper
rubbing but, as always, everyone finished safely and in similar condition
to when they arrived. The only change was the perpetual smile and
fatigued muscles. This was an Enduro, featuring three mandatory pit
stops for driver changes on the mostly-4-person teams.

A 30-minute qualifying period started the action, with drivers having
approximately 10 minutes of seat time to learn the track and set their
best time. Then the carts were staged on the grid in position of best
time set by one of the teammates. Next, the 90-minute Enduro began.
The 38 drivers were set in (8) 4-man and (2) 3-man teams. This action
was as aggressive and exciting as anything you will find in motor racing.
The teammates and visitors cheered their friends, family and teammates
on to glory. Pizza and salad kept the drivers happy while their teammates
took the controls.

Here are the results:
1st Place Team:
Howard Gilson, Jason Dobrusin, Kay Anderson & Todd
Lassa
2nd Place Team:
Leo Wanstreet, Dave Burton, Jerry Door & Steve Stein

3rd Place Team:
Jim Schmid, Matt Fenster & Dave Miller

The times were all pretty close, so it was a fine line between all the
teams.

We look forward to the rematch in the spring. Based on the day-after
aches and pains, I think its time to hire a personal trainer and get in
shape. I cannot believe what a workout this is!

We look to see more new faces at the next Kart 2 Kart event. This is a
great event to meet other members. Thanks again to Kart 2 Kart for their
accommodations and to those who came out to make this a great time
with old and new friends.
