SEM PORSCHE CONCOURS

Many thanks go to Fred Young and Bill Kreager for all their hard work in promoting
the Southestern Michigan Region's Porsche Club Concours. Many behind the scene
phone calls and discussions went into the planning of this event. The planners were
excited, because this would be the first concours for the club in close to 10 years.
Also, many others are instrumental in the sucess of this event. Lanita Dunham
secured the trophies which were exceptional. Neil Goldberg donated his shop for
the tech session, and the judges for the event were John Denyer, Dennis Denyer
and Ted Dunham.

The concours took place on the lot behind the Heidelberg Restaurant where we
would enjoy lunch following the event. It was very interesting to watch Porsche
owners clean and mine ther cars for possible lint. It was terrific to have a new
club member enroll just minutes before the cut-off and enter the concours.
Friendships were renewed and started, and members shared their favorite detailing
products. Many club members showed up to offer their support, and it was a time
to catch up on the latest happenings for just out of hibernation club members.
In addition, Leo Wanstreet came with the Goodie Store which allowed mant of us
to update our summer wardrobes and purchase last minute gifts.

The judges of this event are known to be accurate and fair. There scoring critique
gave car owners ideas on how to improve the prize-winning ability of their car. In
addition, I encouraged car owners to keep score sheets in their car's portfolio as
proof to insurance companies that their car is in grade AAA condition.

After watching the judges scrutinize the cars it was time to announce the winners,
and the audience was getting anxious to hear the results. There were six divisions,
and in these categories three were for exterior only and three were for full
inspection. The cars in these divisions were the 356, 914, 911 and Boxster after
1974 and 944. The final ratings were closer then close, because there were several
instances where only a half of a point seperated the cars. This event was timed to
allow club members to get ready for the national Porsche Parade.
