Southeast Michigan PCA 45th Anniversary
You have never experienced the Henry Ford Mus
eum Like this…

August 9, 2003 was a beautiful, warm summer day. As Eric and I pulled up
to the Henry Ford Museum, the circular drive was lined on both sides with
Porsches of all styles, types, colors and ages. Mingling between the cars
were our fellow Porsche admirers, dressed in their finest, and enjoying the
day and the cars.

We followed the directions of our past fearless leader, Lew Cantor, and
parked around at the end of the driveway and looked back at all the cars.
It was a beautiful sight and would have been so to even a non-enthusiast.
As we walked the lined drive, we saw all our favorites, new and old, and
even added a few new dream cars to our wish list. The amazement didn’t
end when we entered the museum. There were drinks and hors‘deurves
and spectacular cars brought by our fellow Porsche friends who were kind
and brave enough to display their treasures. These cars lined our dining
area and were our start to a fascinating tour of the museum.

We were given the full run of the museum with the exception of the James
Bond exhibit. With so few people in the museum, the visit was a dream. It
was a wonderful turn out for the club event but spread out in the museum,
it was like a private showing. The museum has been expertly renovated
and is a “must-see” even if you weren’t a car buff.

Dinner met SEM’s high standards. The food was excellent and so was the
service. The official program began the appropriate introductions made by
our current fearless leader, Leo Wanstreet. He was followed by two “car
guys”, whose names escape me, but their jokes and great stories
entertained and delighted us all. We were then once again turned lose in
the museum. We meandered around until after 11:00P.M.

As we left the Henry Ford property, we saw a lonely 356 that needed a
little help on the side of the road. A small group of car guys that had finally
gathered there did what they could to try to get it going again. No one
from our club that I have ever been aware has ever driven past a stranded
Porsche and this was no exception. Before I knew it, we were on our way
home from a great party. Too bad we can’t have a bash like this every
year!!
